Knowing Yourself

By Dean Blackwell

The following questions are designed to motivate us to examine our level of spiritual health, not develop guilt. Each of these questions is supported by scripture. Most anything can be measured. We can measure not only our personal level of spiritual involvement but our commitment as well, if we are open, honest with ourselves and willing to abide by the word of God.

Editor’s Note: Brother Blackwell has given us some excellent thoughts in these two articles. As he pointed out, the authority of God’s word must be considered, respected and followed and self-examination must be conducted by all on a regular basis. The biggest problem in the religious world today is that most religious people do not have any idea what the authority of the scriptures is all about and self-examination is ignored. They need to read and heed the words of Christ found in Matthew 7:21-23. Sadly, many of my own brethren have no idea about the serious need of respecting and abiding in the authority of the scriptures. Or, as the apostle John stated, the doctrine of Christ.” Said John, Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son. If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed: For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds” (2 Jn. 9-11). It is evident that there is little or no self-examination on the part of many brethren to determine whether or not their teaching and practices are in accordance with Divine authority (Col. 3:17). Clearly, Divine authority is repulsive to most! We cordially invite you do attend our gospel meeting when brother Blackwell will present lessons from the wisdom and authority of God’s word. We urge you to attend and examine yourselves using the scriptures to determine whether or not you are abiding in the faith which as once delivered unto the saints” (Jude 3).tgmc
