What Will You Bring?

By Tommy Glendol McClure

The two preceding articles written by brothers Bobby Witherington and Micky Galloway are timely for this age and applicable to all. Countless souls at every corner of this good earth are lost, including souls in the Lord’s church. The apostle Peter warned, “For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God? And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?  (1 Pet. 4:17-18).

As you noticed by reading the front cover of this bulletin, the Railroad Avenue church of Christ will be having a gospel meeting April 23-28. The subjects that will be discussed are listed, and they, like the articles in this issue, are timely as well. Brother Witherington is well grounded in the faith and able to present God’s word in a clear and understandable way. Realizing that many who receive this bulletin live out-of-state and will not be able to attend, I extend a warm invitation to all, especially those who do live in this area. But, I have a few requests of those who are considering this invitation:

First, bring your Bible! After all, this is a study of God’s word. The goal of this gospel meeting is to preach and study the gospel. Do not expect a story telling session, jokes from the pulpit or sweet heart-warming experiences being discussed. Expect to hear lessons that will “reprove, rebuke and exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine” (2 Tim. 4:2). Have the mind of the noble saints of Berea (Acts 17:11).

Second, bring and open mind willing to investigate the truth. After all, the lessons will be based on the words of Christ, which is truth. Since we will be judged by the words of Christ (J. 12:42), it behooves us to know and understand this truth. We urge you to have the attitude and mind of Cornelius and his household as he called for Simon Peter who told Cornelius words whereby all in his house might be saved (Acts 11:14). The willingness of Cornelius to hear and accept the truth of God’s word is expressed in Acts 10:33 when he exclaimed to Peter, “Immediately therefore I sent to thee; and thou hast well done that thou art come. Now therefore are we all here present before God, to hear all things that are commanded thee of God.” Will you come with such an open minded attitude as Cornelius?

Third, bring yourself! Some will probably think about it but will not come. Some, (even brethren of area congregations) who live in this area, seldom ever attend a gospel meeting at Railroad Avenue? Why is that? I am made to wonder why you would not want to come and hear God’s word proclaimed. If you do come, you will be treated kindly and with respect. We welcome you!

Fourth, bring your family or a friend. We welcome all visitors and we would hope you would enjoy visiting with the brethren at Railroad Avenue during the meeting and any service when we assemble. Both you and whoever you bring with you will be profited by the lessons, I guarantee it! We appreciate any and all who are seeking the truth which will “sanctify,” “make you free” and “purify” (Jn. 17:17, 8:32; 1 Pet. 1:22).

Fifth, bring the willingness and desire to do the Lord’s will. If you are a sinner and have never obeyed the gospel, please consider these lessons. If you are a member who has erred “from the truth” (Jas.5:19), “...behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation” (2 Cor. 6:2). What will you bring? - tgmc
